White Wine

de Calpino

2021

de Calpino is a single vineyard Garnatxa Blanca that has been aged on its lees. The vineyard, planted in 1897, is over 125 years old; one of the first vineyards planted after phylloxera hit Catalonia. This wine is aged only in stainless steel (no oak) and is therefore a pure expression of the terroir and the old vines.

Appearance

Bright gold in color, with hints of green.

Aroma

Intense with notes of tropical fruits, raw olive oil, and toasted almonds.

Palate

The silky, full-bodied texture of this wine bears contrast to the pop of acidity, eventually giving way to complex minerality and bread and nuts.

Awards and Accolades

Our most awarded wine, de Calpino has consistently been acknowledged as one of the best white wines in DO Montsant and has received numerous gold medals and exceedingly high scores from critics.

Ideal Pairings

This white wine is big, bold, high in acid and contains enough complexity to hold its own against many dishes. Although it pairs well with cheeses, fruits, fish, and other seafood, it also stands well simply on its own.

Vineyard Information

The vineyard, named La Porquera, sits just northwest of the village of El Masroig, in El Priorat, and belongs to DO Montsant. It sits atop the region's infamous slate stone, llicorella. The vines were planted between 1897 and 1901; some of the very first vines planted after phylloxera ravaged the region in the late 19th century. Today, these 125+ year old vines produce very low yields, but of fantastic quality.
